I’ve been doing lessons with Rebecca Comerford for over half my life, and she has watched and helped me grow. I honestly couldn’t ask for a better vocal coach/piano teacher and friend. Rebecca is an incredibly sweet and patient person who is an extremely talented singer and pianist, as well as an amazing songwriter and composer. If you want to receive coaching from the best, Rebecca is who you are looking for.

When developing and directing the opera, Rebecca took the time to deftly explore the difficult subject mater of the material in a way that was non-threatening but also socially and artistically relevant and meaningful for an ensemble of younger performers. Her directing style was fully embodied, allowing the children to feel both comfortable and empowered in their work. Standing ovation performances were held at Ojai’s Libbey Bowl and the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara. In addition to Brundibár, Rebecca also lead Santa Barbara Youth Opera ensemble members in preparation for our Carmen and Cunning Little Vixen performances later that season. Rebecca’s musicianship, attention to detail, diction coaching and energy resulted in outstanding performances by our young ensemble. As an artist Rebecca is spirited, imaginative and innovative. As a working colleague Rebecca cares deeply about the projects and creative community she commits to. Her passion for arts education and fostering new ideas in the fields of theatre and music is visible and alive.

When I think of my time with Rebecca as my voice teacher, the first word that comes to mind is empowerment. She empowered me to be confident in myself as both a musician and a person through my voice. Not only did she empower me, but she helped me learn skills and technique to strengthen my voice, my presence, my acting, and my understanding of music. While our time was mainly spent studying classical voice and repertoire, she never stopped me from pursuing other genres, including writing my own music. Rebecca will not only help you grow as a musician, but also help you grow your artistry. When learning repertoire, she focuses not only on the notes and rhythms, but also the text, correct pronunciation, and how to portray emotion through one’s voice and acting. One of my favorite quotes about singing is: “The vocal folds that create spoken sound and singing are found halfway between your head and your heart. Great singers use both.” I can not think of a better quote that encompasses Rebecca.

Kaylie Turner, singer/songwriter Berklee College of Music class of 2025

As an artist whose own practice is nomadic and constantly moves in between mediums of still photography to video art, cinema and opera; I have become totally fascinated with Rebecca’s unpredictable artistic journey. I have met many artists working simultaneously on multiple mediums, but rarely have I met an artist capable of delivering all of her interests in such equal level of quality.  I admire Rebecca as a human being and a woman of tremendous talent.

Shirin Neshat, legendary Iranian filmmaker and director

One of history’s greatest sculptors Michelangelo once said, “Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it. I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” This quote perfectly sums up Rebecca’s approach to vocal education. Through her expertly crafted vocal teaching and guidance, I was able to free my own voice and craft a unique sound. Rebecca’s training is easy to follow, therapeutic, and healing. The voice is one with the body and needs to be trained constantly just like any other muscle. Throughout your lesson, Rebecca makes sure you are connected, grounded and rooted to your core to avoid any bad habits from surfacing. Rebecca’s teaching caters to each singer's specific need and is designed to promote self growth and discovery. She helped me nail an audition for a school musical, sing my favorite songs successfully, and has offered advice/guidance with my own music production  and mastery of music theory. She is extremely patient, knowledgeable and kind hearted which helped a shy beginner, such as myself, feel comfortable. If you put all of your trust into her teachings and exercises the pay off is beyond what you can imagine. I guarantee you will not find a better vocal teacher and friend.

Sophie Zara, Singer/Songwriter

When I first came to Rebecca, I was practicing several harmful singing habits and hadn’t been making vocal progress for a long time. Not long after I started working with her, I noticed I was finally starting to make real progress again and that singing felt more natural and healthy. In each of my lessons, Rebecca has used her great knowledge of the vocal arts to help me grow in a healthy, steady manner.
